    HARM REDUCTION:

    Abstinence from substance use is always recommended but as part of reducing harm it is advised that you do not use any substances alone due to risk of overdosing, regardless of method of ingestion, and use the following means to reduce complications relate to substance use

    1. Please carry Narcan with you, if you do not have Narcan with you currently, please ask your physician while in the hospital or clinic for a prescription.
    If you encounter a situation where you must use Narcan please call 911 at the same time.

    2. Please refrain from re using (even if you used them yourself earlier) or sharing needles. To access Sterile syringes (clean needles), get HIV testing, and dental hygiene kits please go to the following locations

    3. Please use an alcohol swab to clean skin and use sterile (clean) bottled water or tap water when injecting drugs
    - If you engage in sex work, please use protection (condoms), contraception (Condoms, Birth control pills or injections) and get regularly tested for sexually transmitted diseases.

    4. Please get regular HIV testing and if interested in decreasing the risk of acquiring HIV, please discuss HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) with your family doctor/primary care doctor.
    HIV Prep is a daily pill which can decrease the risk of acquiring HIV.

    - This line is intended to provide you support if you are using drugs alone and is not connected with law enforcement.

    You will be asked for your first name, location, and the number you are calling from. An operator will stay on the line with you while you are using drugs. If you stop responding during the call, the operator will notify emergency services of your location for urgent evaluation and treatment.

    - They also provide other services for patients with substance use disorder who just need someone to talk to that has been there and understands. All operators have lived experience with SUD and can relate to what you’re going through.

    - You can also download Lifeguard app on your Smart phone: The app will ask for your name and location and will set a timer- If you do not press the end button (in case of overdose) when the timer ends it will notify 911.
