Project CARE is gearing up for the next session of Safety Training and Risk Reduction (STARR) classes regarding healthy sexuality and safe relationships. The seven week session starts April 27th and we’re accepting referrals until April 20th. Classes are accessible via Zoom on Tuesdays 11am-1pm with a short break at 12pm.

I’ve attached a flyer and referral form for your convenience. Please share away!

STARR (Safety Training & Risk Reduction) is a systematic educational curriculum intended to teach individuals with intellectual, cognitive, developmental and/or significant mental health disabilities how to become more effective decision-makers who could protect themselves against violence and abuse in the home and community. Project CARE's STARR classes provide weekly sessions of prevention and education material to individuals with disabilities by addressing ways to identify abuse, develop and maintain healthy relationships and how to seek support when needed. Additionally, Healthy Sexuality and Sexual Education has been incorporated into the course.

Disclaimer: The sexual education component of the class is taught through a curriculum called Elevatus which is sponsored by Planned Parenthood and taught by an educator from Planned Parenthood.

    Topics Include:
Gender Identity and Gender Stereotypes, Consent, Safe Relationships, Types of Abuse & How to Seek Support when/if Needed, Body Parts & How they Work, Puberty & Hygiene, Family Planning & Safer Sex Methods, Reducing the Risk of STIs
